Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has appointed K. Venkat Narayan, producer of actor Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan, as the state’s special representative in New Delhi.
The appointment carries cabinet-level status, according to reports.
The move has triggered political discussions in Tamil Nadu, as it comes at a time when speculation is growing over the financial prospects of Jana Nayagan, which is yet to hit theatres. However, leaders of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam have clarified that the appointment is unrelated to the film.

Venkat Narayan, who has invested in the project, was also present with Vijay during recent political activities, including when Vijay made moves related to his political plans.
Party sources said the responsibility was given considering Venkat Narayan’s administrative experience, background and the confidence placed in him.
The appointment has now become a topic of discussion in both political and film circles across the state.
